It is no secret I am a big fan of Italian Reds and when I find a winery like Alois Lageder that can make big bold whites with crisp acidity I jump on them. In my opinion this family winery has done what many wineries from Italy can’t boast, every one of their white wines is nothing less than spectacular! Don’t miss out on them!
Brilliant straw yellow colour with a green tint. Very fine, fruity (apples, peaches), forward varietal aroma. Pronounced, clean, elegant, grapey flavor, light to medium-bodied with a fresh mouth-watering finish.
For over one hundred and fifty years, wine making has been a part of the history of the Lageder family. As the son of a coach maker and wine dealer, Alois Lageder’s great grandfather founded the wine cellar in Bolzano in 1855. The firm rapidly became well-known for its scrupulous selection of wines and for its emphasis on the quality of its own production and steadily grew. In 1934, the family acquired the Löwengang estate in Magrè. In the following years the family found it possible to expand still further, acquiring other vineyards in prime positions in Alto Adige. Today the company is led by Alois Lageder, who was born in 1950. His innovative ideas and strategies brought new movement in the 1980s into Alto Adige’s wine industry.
Alto Adige is one of the smallest of Italy’s viticultural regions. But its geographical placement also makes it one of the most diverse. The Alps to the north give protection from cold winds. They also make for cool nights, which promote a slow, even ripening of the grapes with the result that the grapes maintain their typical aromas. They are likewise able to preserve the acids which give the wines freshness and elegance. Mediterranean influences stream up from the south, through the wide, open Adige Valley. The year is blessed with more than three hundred days of sunshine.
